Frequently Asked Questions

Why was Moyo Goods started?

The idea behind this model project is to create sustainability for our free hospital in Msundwe. Setting up Moyo and marketing its goods allows us to offset the operational costs of the hospital and eventually expand our services and level of care. In the current state of the global economy, raising money for operations is extremely difficult. Developing programs that generate profits help us offset those operational costs without having to go door to door raising money.

What products does Moyo Goods offer?

Nuts! Moyo’s first product will be one of the world’s fastest growing snacks, macadamia nuts. This delicious and nutritious nut has become increasingly popular as a roasted, salted or covered snack and party food, and it is also a regular star in fabulous desserts from ice cream to tarts to cookies. Initially, much of our macadamia harvest will be sold through the Malawi Macadamia Association or to the highest international bidder, but plans are in development for distribution to U.S. markets as well. Products to be rolled out over the next few years include a smooth, aromatic Arabica coffee, produced from thousands of plants growing now at the Moyo Goods farm in Malawi.

Can I invest or buy stock in Moyo Goods?

Yes. You can help us break the cycle of poverty through the development of a sustainable model for agriculture and business in Malawi. Both donations and investments will give the people of Msundwe a “hand-up”—not just a “hand-out”—with a “growing” business that works for them and their future.

But this is also an exciting investment because Moyo Goods is a “growing” business in more ways than one. The Moyo Goods model has great potential for scalability, so our hope is that it can be replicated in other regions with similar needs and agricultural viability. Best of all, the business outlook for macadamia farmers includes a $1.31 billion global market that currently has a forecast compound annual growth rate of 11.2% between 2021 and 2032. Maximizing Malawi’s role in this growth revolves around smallholder producers, such as Moyo Goods. Smallholders currently account for only 10% of Malawi’s macadamia production, with the balance made up by commercial producers who enjoy higher margins. We hope to leverage strategies to increase yields, reduce production costs, develop processing capacity, and improve post-harvest handling and transport to increase margins, profits and smallholder share. We expect these strategies, along with our aggressive online marketing efforts, to drive significant growth.
